The Story of Cuteden: Where Healing Meets Feline Design

Every home has a heartbeat. At Cuteden, our heartbeat began with a boy, a devastating loss, and the quiet, saving grace of purring paws.

Part I: The Quiet Rooms of New York

In the autumn of 2001, the world changed forever, and so did the life of a seven-year-old boy in upstate New York. Simon Steve’s father was among those who tragically lost their lives in the September 11 attacks. Stricken by insurmountable grief, Simon's mother departed just a year later, leaving six-year-old Simon to navigate the world as an orphan.

Growing up in the quiet, sometimes cold rooms of upstate New York, Simon spent his childhood searching for two things that felt permanently out of reach: unconditional love and a true sense of security.

Then came Amy and Milo.

Amy, a quiet, observant tabby kitten, and Milo, a gentle rescue cat, became Simon’s foster family. They didn't ask Simon to explain his grief. Instead, Milo would sit quietly by his side during his darkest nights, while Amy would curl up on his chest, her steady, soothing purr acting as a soft, rhythmic shield against the world. They were not just pets; they were his anchor. They taught him that "home" isn't just a physical place—it is a feeling of being safe, understood, and deeply loved.

Part II: The Science of Feline Comfort

With Amy and Milo by his side, Simon grew, eventually leaving New York at age eighteen to pursue his passion in California. In 2013, he graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a Master of Science in Animal Behavior (Ethology), specializing in feline psychology.

Through years of rigorous academic research, Simon began to understand scientifically what he had always known instinctively: cats experience the world through a profound need for environmental security, high elevation, and cozy hideaways. He studied how a cat’s territorial design directly impacts their nervous system, anxiety levels, and emotional well-being.

After graduating, Simon settled into his adult life. His home was blessed by a family of four beloved rescue cats: Luna, Oliver, Milo, and Cleo.

As his feline companions grew, Simon faced a frustrating dilemma common to modern cat parents. To give his cats the elevated lookouts, territorial confidence, and cave-like spaces their instincts craved to ease their anxiety, he had to clutter his carefully curated, modern living room with bulky carpeted towers, cheap plastic hideouts, and mismatched cat furniture.

"Why," Simon asked, "must cat parents choose between their companion’s psychological comfort and the beauty of their own homes?"

Part III: The Birth of Cuteden

It was from this exact question—and a lifetime of gratitude for the cats that saved him—that Cuteden was born.

Simon realized that his unique academic background in feline behavioral science, combined with his passion for clean, modern aesthetics, could solve this compromise forever.
